Located in the historic Coffin School, Egan Martime Foundation is dedicated to the documentation, preservation and scholarly study of the art, history, architecture and traditions of Nantucket. The museum houses a variety of exhibits throughout the year that highlight certain aspects of life on Nantucket Island.

The Nantucket Whaling Museum, located in an old spermaceti candle factory, features exhibits pertaining to the prosperous whaling industry. With paintings, portraits, whaling memorabilia and a collection of scrimshaw, the museum also displays artifacts from the Essex shipwreck that inspired the novel "Moby Dick."

The Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum showcases these artifacts that are unique to the island. A variety of historical and contemporary baskets are on display in the museum and visitors can view a basket-makers workshop. This museum is surrounded by a garden that contains plants that were prevalent during the 1820s.
