The maritime town of Nantucket was once the whaling capital of the world. Almost as if frozen in time when the industry declined in the 17th century, the town continues to boast many original structures. In fact, Nantucket has more historic buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places than the larger, mainland city of Boston. Visitors enjoy exploring the Nantucket Whaling Museum, which boasts a collection of unique artifacts, many of which inspired Herman Melville's novel Moby Dick.
